What is Compounding?

Porter’s Prescription Pharmacy is also a PCAB Accredited Compounding Pharmacy. Porter's Pharmacy is classified as a "non-sterile" Compounding Pharmacy, meaning we can not prepare medications that are to be injected or applied to the eyes. Compounding is the traditional art and science that pharmacists use to prepare customized medications in a laboratory to meet the unique medication needs of physicians and patients. Our Compounding Pharmacists will work with licensed prescribers to solve medication issues that traditional pharmaceutical companies would not be able to accomplish on a case by case basis. We are able to customize medications according to desired pharmaceutical ingredients, dosing, route of administration, and even flavoring if required. The ability for us to compound provides an ability to help patients and physicians in ways not available at a typical community pharmacy.
