    Porter's Pharmacy COVID-19 Vaccination Update: 3-2-21

Dear Family and Friends of Porter's Pharmacy,                                                                                                        During the first two weeks of February, we began to administer the COVID-19 Vaccine to our patients and high-risk individuals in the community. These two initial weekend Vaccination Clinics were very organized and very successful. Thanks for the very kind words and compliments we received from individuals who participated.                                                                                                                                                          Unfortunately, our "first dose" Clinics have come to a abrupt and surprising halt for us for the short term . We have learned that the PA Dept. of Health plans to eliminate most independent pharmacies and smaller physician provider groups from receiving additional vaccine from the PA state inventory to continue giving "first Dose" vaccinations. Moving forward, PA state has plans to dispense their vaccine inventory only through large providers and big vaccination venues to simplify their handling of the program. However, it is important to note that any specific pharmacy or provider group that has already administered first doses will still be able to complete second doses from the PA state inventory. On March 2nd, Porter's Pharmacy was notified by PA state that we will be getting our vaccine supply to administer second doses. We used the Moderna Vaccine. This vaccine is typically schedule 28 days apart, but the CDC guidelines allow a period of 28 to 42 days. We are in the process of working out patient scheduling for the second dose Vaccination Clinics. Those people will be notified of their appointment times.                                                  There is GREAT NEWS to report. We will start to get a COVID-19 Vaccine supply directly from the Federal Government channeled directly through our Drug Wholesaler. Federal distribution is targeted to start sometime later in March. This will give us access to a good stream of vaccine to continue administering first and second doses at future Porter's Vaccination Clinics. We are eager to continue helping people in the community.                                                                                                                                                                                  We will continue to keep our Vaccination Wait List closed temporarily until we know just how much vaccine we will be getting from future orders we place. We will then be able to match product received against the large list of people we still currently have on the Wait List. We plan to reopen our Wait List to sign up additional people as soon as we are able to.                                                                                                Thank you,                                                                                                                                                                                  Porter's Pharmacy Staff
