    Porter's Pharmacy COVID-19 Vaccination Update: 4-13-21

Dear Family and Friends of Porter's Pharmacy,                                                                                                        During the first two weeks of February, we began to administer the COVID-19 Vaccine to our patients and high-risk individuals in the community. These two initial weekend Vaccination Clinics were very organized and very successful. Thanks for the very kind words and compliments we received from individuals who participated.                                                                                                                                                          Unfortunately, our "first dose" Clinics did come to a abrupt and surprising halt after March 19th. We learned that the PA Dept. of Health had eliminated most independent pharmacies and smaller physician provider groups from receiving additional vaccine from the PA state inventory to continue giving "First Dose" vaccinations. Moving forward, PA state has plans to dispense their vaccine inventory only through large providers and big vaccination venues to simplify their handling of the program. However, it is important to note that any specific pharmacy or provider group that had already administered first doses will still complete second doses from the PA state inventory. Porter's Pharmacy was notified and we did get our vaccine supply to administer the second doses on April 16th to those who got their first dose on March 19th. We had used the Moderna Vaccine. This vaccine is typically scheduled 28 days apart, but CDC guidelines allow a period of 28 to 42 days.                                                                                                                            In April, we have started to get a COVID-19 Vaccine supply directly from the Federal Government channeled directly through our Drug Wholesaler. Federal distribution has begun and we have access to the J&J vaccine. This is only a single shot vaccination unlike Moderna and Pfiizer. We did our first J&J Vaccination Clinic on April 8th and were prepared to do our second one, but on April 13th, the CDC and FDA has asked that the administration of the J&J Vaccine be paused for a product review. Only after the pause can be lifted, could we proceed to organize another Clinic. At that time, direction for sign-up will be available through our phone message tree when you call the pharmacy.                                                    Pennsylvania has also recently announced that as of Monday, April 19th, any adult Pennsylvanian who wants the vaccine can begin making arrangements to get it. Needing to meet any criteria to receive the vaccine will be lifted and ALL adults will be able to have access to it.                                                                    Thank you,                                                                                                                                                                                    Porter's Pharmacy Staff
